Horseshoe Crab on the beach - limulus poliphemus

Wildwood Crest Beach, New Jersey

I understand the attachments to the outer shells are slipper snails and barnacles.These organisms have a relationship with the horseshoe crab termed commensalism, i.e. they benefit from attachment, but cause no harm to the horseshoe crab.
