It is mating season for spring peepers aka chorus frogs. If you walk past a sunny pond in spring you might hear a cacophony of loud croaks. It usually stops when you get near the waters edge. If you start moving away the insane racket starts again. You have just found a warm pond inhabited by spring peepers. You must be absolutely still and not cast a shadow over the water to see these noise makers.
It is worthwhile and entertaining to watch these amazing frogs.
