La reine Victoria choisit Ottawa comme capitale de la Province unie du Canada en 1857, et elle était reine de la Grande-Bretagne au moment de la Confédération. En 2007, des festivités souligneront tout
au long de l’année, le 150e anniversaire du choix d’Ottawa comme capitale. Ce monument, proposé à l’occasion du jubilé de diamants de la reine Victoria, en 1897, 60e année de son règne, ne fut pas
inauguré avant 1901. Il montre la reine gardée par le puissant lion britannique.

Queen Victoria chose Ottawa as the capital of the united Province of Canada in 1857, and was British monarch at the time of Confederation. For 2007, a year of celebrations will honour Ottawa’s 150th
anniversary as a capital. This statue was proposed for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the 60th year of her reign, in 1897, but was not unveiled until 1901. The Queen is guarded by the British lion.
