Fred Christian Kroon

   Fred Kroon passed away on September 27, 2023, at age 72. He will be lovingly remembered by his partner Karen Hedley-Smith, sons Frederick (Julie) and Jon, granddaughters Shealeigh, Kyah and Daelyn, and Sheldon (Heather) and Julia. Papa Fred held a special place in grandson Maverick’s heart. Fred was predeceased by his first wife Donna, in 2003. He is survived by his sister Sue-Anne and brother Bill.    Fred’s career as an air traffic controller began in Val d’Or (YVO) in 1975. FK, as he was known, worked in Baie Commo (YBC), Castlegar (YCG), and Vancouver (YVR). He relocated to Kelowna (YLW) and retired in 2008. He then began a new venture running a B&B called The Stagger Inn.

   In 2013, Fred received the gift of life, a good deal on a used kidney from his partner KP, He enjoyed more years of health, until succumbing to cancer after a four year battle.

   Fred led an active life. Playing golf, tennis, hockey, and racketball, going boating, buying and selling cars, and watching TV filled his days.

   Fred was one of the good ones. He was a friend to all, many of whom were fortunate to have been able to celebrate with him in his final days. In true Fred fashion, he went out in style, enjoying Margaritas with his family.
