Taf Bargoed Country Park.

Taf Bargoed Country Park is a new park on the reclaimed land from three large collieries that occupied the valley between the villages of Treharris, Trelewis and Bedlinog. The largest was the Deep Navigation Colliery, the deepest coal mine in the South Wales coalfield and produced high quality steam coal. Opened in 1872 it closed in 1991.

The second was the Taff Merthyr Colliery. Sunk in 1924 it was the last colliery sunk by the Powell Duffryn Steam Coal Company. The colliery closed in 1992. Also on the same site was the Trelewis Drift Mine. Sunk in 1954 it was to became the most productive coal mine in the coal field setting several production records. It was closed by British Coal in 1989.

The area was transformed into the park soon after the last colliery closed in 1992 and took seven years to complete.

Photographs will be added as the year progresses.
