Winding a tortuous route clinging to the cliff the railway wound it's way around the steep sided Clydach Gorge between Abergavenny and Brynmawr. Opened in 1862 it was leased to the LNWR. The line closed to passengers in 1958 and ran it's last goods train with coal from Tredegar the following year. It still remains an impressive piece of engineering.
