The station was opened in 1867 and the building that stands today was funded by the world renowned soprano Madame Adelina Patti in 1886. She was recently purchased Craig-y-nos castle that sat in the valley below Penwyllt and had a road built to connect the castle to the station. She had her own private waiting room.
