I've driven past this spot hundreds of times and never noticed this retaining wall for a possible loading platform. The limestone quarries around Penderyn go back hundreds of years. It was an major ingredient in the making of iron and the first ironworks in the area was opened in nearby Hirwaun in 1757. There are shallow quarries throughout the area of Cefn Cadlan.
This platform wall is just off the main Penderyn to Storey Arms road.
