There is no more stunning location within the boundaries of the Dare Valley Country Park. The scree in the cliff face is the southern most glacial feature in the UK and was formed during the last ice age. In the foreground is the metal work that would have been at the top of the winding gear on which the huge wheels rotated.
The mid ground is the reclaimed spoil tip from over a hundred years of coal mining from this colliery. Beyond the spoil was a small terrace of miners' cottages and a brick works. Then the escarpment of Craig-y-Bwllfa.
