The great horned owls who raised their owlets in a laundry basket - GALLERY
In spring 2007, on a residential street in Monona, Wisconsin, a pair of great horned owls raised their owlets in a wicker laundry basket in an evergreen tree. There was a story in the newspaper that in the previous year the owls' regular nest broke and that year's owlets fell to the ground. A kindly person put a wicker laundry basket up in the tree where the nest had been and gently put the surviving owlets into the nest (one owlet died in the fall to the ground). Not only did the parent owls successfully raise their owlets in the laundry basket that year, they returned the following year and raised another family. These are photos from the second year.
