Greg attended the Council of Writing Program Administrator's (WPA) national conference in July of 2005 in Anchorage, and Courtney came along. We stayed in one of the University of Alaska's dorm rooms, which was okay, other than they don't have air conditioning so the windows had to be opened, and since it stayed daylight until midnight or so there were always people outside . . . so it was a little noisy.
Alaska was every bit as spectacular as it's claimed to be -- simply stunning. Everywhere you looked, it was like seeing a postcard.
We got to go on two day cruises, and on both we saw glaciers and wildlife and wonderful scenery.
The people were friendly and the weather was great -- don't know how it'd be when there is only four hours of daylight . . .
Orso, a restaurant in downtown Anchorage, was excellent. The Snow City Cafe has a great atmosphere and wonderful bacon. The Lodge at the Seward Windsong Inn had pretty bad food -- but that's the only place we had a bad meal.
