In June 2025, United Natural Foods, Inc. faced a severe operational challenge when it was forced to implement a complete unfi system outage after detecting suspicious and unauthorized activity in its digital infrastructure. On June 5, the company made the critical decision to execute a full unfi shutdown in order to contain the breach and safeguard sensitive data. The disruption was felt across the continent. By the middle of June, distribution centers had regained partial digital capabilities, and shipments began to normalize, although some areas continued to experience delays. This incident served as a clear reminder of the risks inherent in highly digitized supply chains and the necessity for strong contingency measures.
