From an historical marker at the site:

The name "Pupia" was given to the temple by the local people; no official name of this temple appears in historical documents of the era. The Chedi of this temple has been preserved in a near-complete condition and was the only part visible before excavation began. Other structures were overgrown with bushes and a longan tree on a mound of 1.50-1.80 meter high.
The Department of Fine Arts started the excavation of the temple in 1985 and found a Vihara (Wihan) in front of the Chedi. Evidence shows that there were two constructions, one on top of the other. There was also a rite pavilion (Ubosot) north of the Vihara set by red sandstone slabs. To the northeast of the rite pavilion, an octagonal building was found with a worship alter nearby. The Chedi has a high base, then a body four niches on each side for Buddha images which is then topped by a small bell shape. At each niche appears a beautiful decorative stucco of spiral and floral designs. The excavation and restoration of this temple was finished in 1989, though it is believed there must have been other buildings as well as a wall. However the excavation work cannot be continued due to conflicts over land ownership.
From its architecture, it can be assumed that this temple was built around the 16th-17th centuries A.D.
