The Chinese Temple Chao Mae Kuan Yim Shrine (also spelled Kuan Im or Quan Yin) is home to the Thian Fa Foundation, which was established in 1902 (B.E. 2445) by the Co-operation of the Chinese Immigrants of Five Dialects. It was the first foundation in Thailand to aim at giving medical treatment to deprived patients. The treatments are both modern and traditional Chinese. Inside the foundation building, there is a shrine of Kuan Yim, Phra Bodhisat Awalokitesuan in the attitude of giving blessings. The believers of the Mahayana Buddhism pay respect to this Bodhisat (Bodhisattva) in addition to Lord Buddha. They believe that the Bodhisats have reached enlightenment, but have not entered the land of the Buddhas because they want to first help those who suffer. One of the most revered Bodhisats is Awalokitesuan who is endowed with mercy. She is known among the Chinese as Kuan Si Yim or Kuan Yim Phu Sak, meaning the Bodhisat who listens to the world.
This Kuan Yim statue is carved from teak wood in the Thang Dynasty art style. It is assumed to be made in the Song Dynasty, approximately eight to nine hundred years ago. It was taken from China in 1958  (B.E. 2501) to be enshrined in the Thian Fa Foundation building as a revered object for people in general.

ศาลเงจ้าแม่กวนอิม มูลนิธิเทียนฟ้า ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื้อ พ.ศ. ๒๔๔๕ เป็นมูลนิธิแห่งแรกในประทศไทย โดยการรวมตัวของกลุ่มชาวจีน ๕ ภาษา เพื่อสงเคราะห์ผู้ป่วยไข้ที่ยากไร้ให้ได้รับการรักษาพยาบาล มีทั้งการรักษาแบบแพทย์แผนปัจจุบันและแพทย์แผนจีนภายใน มูลนิธิแห่งนี้มีศาลรูปเคารพของ เจ้าแม่กาจนอิม พระโพธิสัตจ์อวโลกิเตศวร ปางประทานพร ประดิษฐานเป็นเทพเจ้าองค์ประธาน ซึ่งชาวพุทธนิกายมหายาน ได้ให้ความเคารพนับถือต่อพระโพธิสัตว์นอกเหนือจากสมเด็จพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ไดยเชื่อว่าพระโพธิสัตว์คือผู้ที่ตรัสรู้แล้ว เพียงแต่ยังไม่เข้าสู่พุทธภูมิ จนกว่าจะช่วยเหลือผู้ที่ตกทุกข์ได้ยากเสียก่อน ในบรรดาพระโพธิสัตว์ ที่เป็นที่เลื่อมใสศรัทธามากพระองค์หนึ่งก็คือ พระอวโลกิเตศวร พระโพธิสัตว์แห่งคามเมตตา หรือที่ชาวจีนเรียกกันว่า กวนซีอิมหรือกวนอิมพู่สัก กชึ่งแปลว่า พระโพธิสัตว์ผู้เงี่ยหูฟังโลก
เจ้าแม่กวนอิม องค์นี้เป็นไม้แกะสลัก ศิลปะแบบราชวงศ์ถัง สันนิฐานได้ว่าสร้างขึ้นในสมัยราชวงศ์ซ่ง เมื่อประมาณ๘๐๐ - ๙๐๐ ปีที่ผ่านมา ได้ถูกอัญเชิญมาจากประเทศจีนเมื่อประมาณปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๑ มาประดิษฐานที่บริเวณ มูลนิธิเทียนฟ้า เพื่อให้ประชาชนได้สักการบูชา
