Chedi Wat That Klang

Chedi Wat That Klang, Tambon Haiya, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand
เจดีย์วัดธาตุกลาง ตำบลหายยา เมืองเชียงใหม่ จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ประเทศไทย

Chedi Wat That Klang is an isolated chedi ruin. This temple (all that remains is the ancient chedi) has been give the name That Klang (in Thai, "That" means a type of chedi or stupa and "Klang" means "middle"). Although it is located outside the southern part of the Chiang Mai city wall, it lies in an area directly between a Chiang Mai gate and Pratu Khuokum (literally translated as "small bridge gate"), which was the southern gate in the earthen wall of the city. There is no other information regarding the founding of this temple in the historical records.
At present there is only one Sukhothai chedi (of the Phum Khao Bin type) left in the area. The double rabbeted relic chamber of this chedi is situated on a double rabbeted lotus base and features a bell-shaped structure with a spire. It is the only remaining chedi dating to after the 16th century that reflects religion, art and architecture of the Sukhothai artistic style in the Lanna area.
