An Inventory of Undefining Moments in L.A.'s Urban Landscape

SUB.DIVISION is about the intersection between domesticity and utility. The customized tract home, the carefully manicured dingbat apartment building, an incongruous industrial infrastructure all contribute to an urban landscape that is found within a 5-mile radius of NBC, Disney Studios, Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures/MGM. The pretense of the unpretentious transcends the appearance of an ephemeral existence, where beauty and meaning are found in the object-as-context and not just in the artifact alone.

I have been inspired by the work of Quentin Tarrantino and Wim Wenders in how they have visualized the San Fernando Valley as a place both romantic and dystopian; I am also very partial to the compositional ideas behind Caspar David Freidrich's romanticist vision of landscape, in this case city-as-landscape.
