Great to meet you in Hinton today! Happy photo hunting and come back again!

Thanks Peter. There's no substitute for good glass. Depending on how much you want to spend and how much bulk and weight you want to deal with, I'd start with something like a 300f4 with a 1.4x teleconverter. Moving up to a 500f4 or even a 600f4 would be the ultimate for shooting birds.

Thanks for the amazing work that you do. Your photos have been invaluable in helping me identify so many of the birds we see on our feeders, and out and about in Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Your talent is overwhelming with the incredible shots. Certainly enjoyed your recent 2013 photos. Last time I commented was Feb 2005. Your great work and identities resolved a lot of guesses. Cheers, Willy, in Castle Downs!

I discovered your site while sitting at Slack Slough by Red Deer yesterday. There was a shorebird I could not identify so I used my phone to search & found your site. Since then I have forwarded it to friends and co-workers as you have some of the best photos I have ever seen, particularly of waterfowl. Simply great photos!!!
By the way it was a black-necked stilt that your photos identified for me.

Good stuff Gerald. I met you on Sept 8th at Elk Island. I was the guy from Nova Scotia. Sharron and I had an awesome time in Alberta and B.C, totalling 40 lifers! Hilites were the Avocets at South Cooking Lake, 200 Heerman's Gulls in the Juan De Fuca strait, and watching an American Dipper pound the crap out of a minnow on a rock before swallowing it. Thanks to you and your buddies fro the field trip. Cheers, Ron.

Your owl galleries are probably the most complete and the best to be found here on PBase. I am by default jealous of anybody who lives in BC or AB, and you must top the list of people I am jealous of simply by all the opportunities you have had to see and photograph these owls!
PS: your other galleries are nice too!

Im glad I work alone in the office because I was gasping and oooing in awe at many of your shots. Fantastic!! Got your information from Bruce at WFMI (Friend of Trevor-Goshawk Guy). Know of some great toad sites in the Whitecourt area if you are ever in need to diversify this section of your portfolio

Cheers!

Hi Gerald. Thanks for your comments. The insect photos are all taken in Alberta, and although most are from the Edmonton area, there are many from the prairies and now some from Waterton, although those haven't been put in their appropriate galleries yet. When I do the on-line photographic guide to the arthropods of Alberta (hopefully this winter if the museum gets its act together) all the photos will be accompanied by date and location.

Thanks for the kind words.

I use canon digital slr's. First a 10D, and I recently upgraded to a 20D. I have 2 lenses; a 300mm/f4, and a 100-400mm zoom (I've used both with & without a 1.4X teleconverter).
