Caution: This area is very dangerous now with illegal drug and human smuggling going on every day. Do not travel here until the Dept. of Homeland Security get serious and secures our borders. I've personally run into illegals attempting to stop my progress driving north on Vekol Valley Road.

Vekol Valley is located in south central Arizona, South of I-8, half-way between Casa Grande and Gila Bend. It was designated the Sonoran Desert National Monument by then President Clinton at the end of his term. It encompasses 2,008 square kilometers with the Barry Goldwater Air Force Range and Table Top Wilderness areas included. The monument extends into California and Mexico. This trip included traveling on eastern BLM roads adjacent to the Table Top Wilderness area and into the historic and abandoned Vekol Ranch cattle area. The day was overcast and 31 degrees F when we started out.

I was there today with my son and girlfriend. Place is in disrepair, the main residence has been trashed, the power generator is not there anymore, probably tweakers stole it for the copper wire in it. I brought with me my trusty Glock 17 just in case, we did not encounter anyone other than a park ranger and a border patrol agent. I am sure illegals were in the area but for the most part they will leave you alone since they don't want to bee seen. If you want to drive all the way to the ranch make sure to drive a 4X4 that is the only way to cross the main wash.

We took the drive down yesterday 10/11/2015 at around noon. I drove my Forester (AWD) and couldn't go beyond the wide part of the wash if you go towards the ranch itself. The terrain just didn't allow it. The recent heavy rains must have made it impassable. We did however go all the way down to the old slaughterhouse. There is a pretty big abandoned building with yellow police tape hanging in the brush near it. The only people we saw was another couple doing the same thing we were but they were in some type of off-road buggy.

The ranch is abandoned and was taken over by the BLM.

I plan on visiting the valley in the next few days. I am an American citizen that if threatened will defend myself according. As long as they have not given the valley to Mexico I have every right to hike, prospect, camp and shoot.

It's perfectly OK for illegals and drug smugglers to kill people in Vekol Valley such as happened on June 3, 2012 but U.S. citizens using force in self-defense to avoid being murdered there will immediately be jailed and prosecuted by the State and Federal government. Any effort by the military to protect our borders won't happen because Homeland Security is afraid Mexico might complain if we "militarized" the border. The federal government makes all kinds of noise about states "usurping" its power but utterly fails to discharge its constitutionally mandated duty to control the border and provide for the common defense.

This area has become so dangerous that BLM has posted signs along I-8 hwy warning American travelers of the danger from alien and drug smugglers.
