The Peralta Trail is located in the Superstition Mountains just East of Phoenix, Arizona near Apache Junction. The Wilderness Area, established as a Primitive Area in 1939, became an official Wilderness Area in 1964. It is a tortured and rugged landscape, comprising 160,000 acres, with elevations ranging from 2000 to 6265 feet. Near Weaver's Needle, there is evidence of a large, collapsed caldera in a vast volcanic field with a magma plug rising to 4553 feet from the canyon floor. It is a popular site for climbers, hikers and rock hounds from everywhere in the world. These photos are of the Peralta Trail to Freemont Saddle, with a side hike to the Lone Pine overlook and through the hoodoos to the Southwest of the needle. Total hiking time was 5 hours, including many stops for exploring rocks, caves and sights. Trail length round trip was 6 miles.
