These images are from an off-road trip from Superior, Arizona to the Ajax Gold mine via Telegraph Canyon and Forest Road 4. It is 10 miles one-way to the Ajax Mine which was established in 1915 and contained the minerals gold, copper, lead and many others. There is a 30 foot deep vertical shaft that continues underground. The processing structure is across the wash and is well preserved. It was used to separate the ore from the rock. Telegraph Canyon is a beautiful ride and winds through the hills. Near the Ajax Mine is another mine called the Orphan Boy. We found a vertical shaft and many tailing piles. Minerals removed were gold, copper, lead and zinc.
