Hermit Crab, Coenobita variabilis

Nightcliff NT

I took this picture and realised I know nothing about hermit crab ecology, apart from having an aquatic larval stage, being
omnivorous, having trouble finding adequate shells to move into the bigger they get and being somehow charming despite their
somewhat spider-like appearence. Like spiders, they shed their skins periodically. They require a humid environment to live in.

They're also strangely addicted to coffee grounds - sprinkle a little on the ground near where they occur and come back at night.
