The extremes of temperatures and the proliferation of Coolatai Grass (which isn't a native of Coolatai) means that hot grass fires
are a potential threat to the sleepy town of Coolatai. A number of locals get involved in hazard reduction burns each year,
putting a buffer around the town to reduce the threat. The patchwork fire history also serves to promote a diversity of habitats
around the town, which helps to maintain an excellent population of lizards.
