Red-throated skink, Acritoscincus platynotus

Wollemi Region, NSW

These smallish skinks are one of my favourite lizards. They are intelligent, wary skinks which like to live around deep leaf litter where
they can quickly shuffle out of sight at the approach of a human being. Female Red-throated skinks give birth to live young. One of
my earliest natural history observations (about age five) was of a red-throated skink doing the rounds of a number of Ant-lion pits,
foraging amongst the sand until it came up with an ant lion clasped in it's jaws.
