Juvenile Water Dragon

Wollondilly Valley, NSW Australia

Juvenile water dragons are very vulnerable when they first emerge from their eggs, as they have a total length of about 12cm and
make a good snack for many creatures that they share their habitat with. Only a few metres from where I found this small specimen
I observed a Red-bellied black snake swallow another hatchling of the same size, as the drought concentrated predator and prey
around the tiny pools of water that are all that is left of many of the major creeks in the Lake Burragorang catchment.

Great photo! Very interesting caption as well. I recently saw a pair of adults for the first time, they are fascinating.
