DNA Exposition Traenheim

Alsace

A regarder en version originale / best seen in original version

Gérard Koehl spends all his free time doing this. He crisscrosses Alsace to capture wildlife photos, which are on display until May 1st at the Cave du Roi Dagobert in Traenheim.
"I go to the Vosges, near Geispolsheim, to the Ried, and even to a reserve near the Czech border," explains Gérard Koehl—a sales professional by trade, but a photographer at heart.
Since he doesn't have a strict work schedule, Gérard can afford to get up at 4 a.m. to head into the forest. He then sets up an ambush and waits, hidden close to the ground under a khaki-colored cover.
"I often come back empty-handed. You have to be able to accept that." After all, the animals are shy and have a keen sense of smell.
"That’s why I try to position myself upwind," Gérard Koehl explains. But when an animal appears, it is a powerful moment:
"I love that connection with nature. It’s the pleasure of being alone, in total silence; I adore the atmosphere at daybreak." Choosing just 28 shots for the exhibition was no easy task. In any case, the images are striking.
From squirrels and rabbits to fawns and bears, Gérard Koehl’s photos allow visitors to see things their own eyes would likely never witness from such close range or in such detail.
