Pienza était considérée comme une ville idéale de la Renaissance. Sa construction fut entreprise à la demande du pape Pie II, né dans la région de parents issus d'une famille noble siennoise. Il lança le projet après son élection en 1458, désireux d'ériger un monument durable à sa ville natale. ~VVVVV~

Pienza was considered an ideal city of the Renaissance. It was built on the wishes of Pope Pius II, who was born in this area to parents who were members of a noble Sienese family. He initiated the project after his election in 1458, wanting to create a lasting memorial to his hometown. ~VVVVV~
