I would imagine, in similar circumstances, i.e. late at night, dark, and partner covered in sharp spines there would be quite a few Ooohs, Aaahs and Ouches too :-)
It was probably just "lawn rage" when they collided in the dark; 'Road Hog!' Hedge Hog! you know the usual name calling :-)
