These ponies have been roaming the common land at the Rhinog foothills near Trawsfynydd, north Wales, for over 50 years. Originally bred as Pit Ponies because of their small but immensley strong build. However with both the decline of the British coal industry and its mechanization the demand for Pit Ponies diminished as a result of which there was no market for them, thus over the years these ponies have returned to the wild and have become feral.
