One of the highlights of our trip was observing 2 Chinese Red Panda's (Ailurus fulgens styani) in the wild at Wawushan. In China, it benefits from nature conservation projects like Wawushan Forest Reserve. Here it's foraging on Bamboo, which it's part of it's natural diet. Modern genetic evidence places it in close affinity with raccoons, weasels, and skunks. It is not closely related to the giant panda, which is a bear, though both possess elongated wrist bones or "false thumbs" used for grasping bamboo.
