Glaucous-winged Gull near adult
Primaries seen at a different angle. Observing gulls at different angles to determine tones is important, particularly on sunny days when tones are more difficult to assess. Often mantle tones appear darker on birds facing toward or away from the observer. Here the primaries appear slightly darker than in other images, but note they are still close to the tones of many areas of the tertials, coverts, and scapulars at this angle.
