Semipalmated Sandpiper juvenile
Aged as a juvenile by neatly-arranged upperparts feathers with pale fringes and subterminal "anchor" marks. Note shape, with straight, fairly-short bill showing blunt tip; head is smaller and less blocky in shape than most Westerns, with an overall less front-heavy look. Legs are black, but beware mud-staining like this bird. Note generally uniform coloration above with minimal, low-contrast coloration in upper scapulars (juvenile Western shows more contrasting color).
