Black-bellied Plover juvenile
Distant "record" shot. The bill on this bird is rather thin for a Black-bellied, likely due to age, but still larger than golden-plovers. Aged as juvenile by neat pattern above and below, with checkered upperparts. This bird has a fairly bold contrast to the cap and supercilium, also more typical of golden-plovers. Overall grayish coloration fits Black-bellied well.
The underparts pattern is barely seen in this position, but it showed the typical juvenal Black-bellied pattern of streaked breast and flanks contrasting sharply with the white lower belly and undertail coverts (recalling where the black and white contrast in alternate-plumaged adults).
And yes, in flight this bird had black axillars and white wingstripes and rump!
