The morning of March 23rd found us cruising just north of Naples, the largest city in southern Italy with about one million inhabitants.
From there we made an excursion to the nearby suburban town of Pompei, famous for its ruins of the ancient roman city of Pompeii.
Pompeii was buried by ashes of the Vesuvius during the big eruption of 79 AD, which preserved the city very well and gives us a good impression about life in the 1st century AD.
Because we had only limited time, we only saw a small part of the extensive archaeological site.
