NGC 6872 and companions in Pavo

Tivoli/Namibia

NGC 6872, the galaxy in the upper right part of the image, is currently the largest spiral galaxy known. Its distance from us is about 210 Mill. light years.
It interacts with nearby IC 4970, which causes its current highly elongated shape.
There are even indications, that there might have been also an interaction with the big elliptical galaxy NGC 6876 in the center of the image.
