Like the previous image this picture shows only a small part of the supernova remnant in Vela. The blast of the explosion compressed and excited the interstellar gas, mainly oxygen (teal color) and hydrogen (red color). the event took place approx. 11000 years ago in a distance of about 900 lightyears.
