Melotte 15, the open star cluster in the upper right part of above image, contains several massive and hot stars, whose radiation shapes and excites the surrounding gas and dust clouds.
The image shows roughly the center part of IC1805, which is represented by the emission lines of excited hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen.
