Lions, as you well know, are fearsome creatures
that shall not be crossed.
Their jaws clamp down like guillotines
Their teeth cut through adamantium
and these are their primary features!

For the most part though, we missed the fiery side of lions on our trip. We were more exposed to their lazy, bored, indifferent, relaxed, arrogant side.
That said, lions are still an awesome sight if only to see the reaction they elicit from other animals in the vicinity. Zebras, wildebeest and buffalo are all on high alert the moment they spot a lion, huffing and puffing trying to warn their neighbours of the nearby threat.
We were quite lucky with the quantity of lions we were able to see on the trip:
- In Amboseli, we saw a lioness and her three cubs inside the lodge compound (!)
- In Ngorongoro, we saw a lion and 2 lionesses ambling from one end of the crater to the other
- In the Serengeti, we had the most luck of all: a pride of 15 lionesses and cubs, a lioness and her cubs with a lion following and another couple in the early stages of some form of mating ritual!
