A momma Wolf spider with her new babies riding on her back. The white egg sack still attached has a hole from where the babies emerged.

I found out about this the hard way. Saw a huge spider in my garage...when I stepped on it, to my horrid surprise, hundreds of babies went scurrying in all directions!! YIKES!!!

Great photo, I am glad I didn't have to get that close to it! I live in Illiniois, and just now on our porch saw and my searching for identification of it that lead me to here. The spider that did have babies on her back but they also got off and scurryed off at one point. Am I in danger? Is the wolf spider the only one that does that carry them after hatching?
