The Battle of Olustee

On February 20, 1864 was the Battle of Olustee, the largest conflict fought in Florida during the Civil War, a Confederate force under General Joseph Finegan decisively defeats an army commanded by General Truman Seymour. The victory kept the Confederates in control of Florida's interior for the rest of the war.

This year marked the 150th Anniversary of this battle where approximately 11,000 soldiers altogether where in one of the bloodiest clashes of the Civil War, with 1,861 Union casualties and 946 Confederate casualties. The Confederate victory helped keep the interior of the state under the South's control.

These images were taken at the parade and reenactment of the battle in Lake City, Florida and at the Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park.
