Titled "Speak Truth to Power", this rally and march was held to protest the atrocities that have occurred in US military prisons and draw attention to the leadership that has brought our country to this disgraceful juncture in our Nation's history. Originally planned to end at the Pentagon, the destination of the march was later changed to the residence of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The march route took demonstrators through working class neighborhoods where they were greeted with the support of local onlookers who came out of their homes, workplaces, coffee shops and restaurants. Michael Berg (father of the American recently beheaded in Iraq) helped to lead the march and spoke in front of Rumsfeld's residence, calling for peace and accountablility by the Bush Administration. A small group of counter demonstrators positioned themselves in the vicinity of Rumsfeld's residence, some with pictures of Nicholas Berg's beheading. When hearing of the presence of Nicholas' father among the demonstrators, counter demonstrators began chanting "Michael Berg is a Coward". How low will it go? I don't think we have seen the bottom yet ...
Wow! What a protest. Wouldn't it have been grand if the 300,000 men, women and children who lie under mass graves in Iraq with bullets in their heads were allowed to protest against Hussein, wear funny masks, make angry speeches, rant and rave? How do you suppose
we have the right to protest?
