This rally and march marked one year since the first large demonstrations were organized in opposition to the build-up to the war in Iraq. Numbers of participants were up from the April rally, but still below levels seen at demonstrations just prior to the outbreak of war. Many new vendors were present and the news media appeared to have taken a stonger interest. A large barricade had been built around the Washington Monument in the intervening 6 months. Participation by Muslims (seen at earlier rallies) was notably absent.
