Thanks for the tips. Most of these photos were from the parking lot that you mention. I wish I didn't have to crop, but the 100-400 is my longest lens. I couldn't use a lower ISO because I didn't bring a tripod.

Hey Garrett,
I live on Kauai and shoot at Kokee alot. I shoot with the mk3 also but use the old 500.
The light is usually low and I shoot wide open alot. I think your iso is too high plus cropping too much.
A good tip is I shoot right in the parking lot at the top Kalalau lookout. Overcast rainy days are best for bird activity but every day is different.
