The Union Pacific's challenger class (4-6-6-4) locomotive #3985 ran thru Utah on its way from Cheyenne, WY to Portland, OR (by way of California). After some delay and mis-direction, I caught up with it 10 miles east of Ogden, UT, and got a few shots alongside the freeway. The train layed over in Ogden for the weekend, giving me a chance to go up early one morning for some static shots. Then, I drove up early in the morning to watch it head out to California from the highway just west of Ogden.

#3985's return trip thru Pocatello, ID coincided with my return from Yellowstone. I managed to meet the train just west of the city, and chase it briefly thru town, snappng a few pics along the way.
