I bought my first Guild, a 1972 D-35 in January '73, my senior year in high school. Picked up another D-35 (a '78, since sold) in S.F. sometime around '86, for Anne (then girlfriend, now wife). In the summer of '06, I bought a couple of 1974 Guilds off eBay... a mahogany-bodied D-25M and a maple-bodied G-37Bld. When I discovered how wonderfully different they sounded from each other and my D-35, I was hooked... I started "collecting" Guild dreads, with the goal of getting one in each of the tone woods. Between 2006 and 2010, I added a rosewood-bodied '92 D-55 (recently sold), an '81 ash-bodied D-46, a pearwood D-44 from 1971, and a rosewood bodied '76 D-50.
I added a 1995 DV-73 (one of ~50 made) with Indian Rosewood back and sides and turquoise, coral, onyx, and nickel silver inlay, a 1994 DV-72MK (one of <20 made?) with Indian Rosewood back and sides and malachite inlay in Oct 2014, and a "more common (1 of ~250 made)" 1994 turquoise-trimmed DV-72 in January 2016. Sadly, to "make room" for the DVs, I had to part with several of my Guilds... the '74 G-37, '74 D-25M, '71 D-44,'92 D-55, and the '76 and the D-50 have all moved on to new homes.
June 2023: I added an '82 D-70 (I know, another rosewood dread) in the spring of 2020 (my Covid Guild), and my '81 D-46 moved on to a new home in June 2023....
