A visit to the Rhinelander logging museum, August 2006.
Shots are of relics of the Thunder Lake Logging Co.
The locomotive is a Baldwin 2-8-0 built for the Thunder
Lake in 1925. The Russell log car was the standard for
logging operations. Thunder Lake RR also had a larger
Lima 2-8-0 which could pull 50 of these loaded log cars.
The Thunder Lake ended operations in 1941 when the northern
Wisconsin forest of white pines and hardwoods had been finally
cleared.
Images were shot on a grayish day. So some basic photoshopping
has been employed throughout for better color saturation and
better contrast.
Be sure to view original size image for best view. The Pbase
compression looks a little grainy here. This should give you
a 1000 by 670 pic. The actual originals are some
3872 x 2592, and are available upon negotiation.
