KIMBERLEY
A journey in itself. You can see from the Darwin - Broome Google, the Gibb River road runs in a rather meandering way from Darwin, down south a bit then turns right across the continent to Broome in Western Australia. Give or take about three thousand km into The Kimberley.
Doing it with David Mobbs ( http://www.sacredearthsafaris.com.au/ ) in his new Toyota diesel 4WD with its wonderful road capabilities, power, and two stage aircon is magic. It takes a couple of weeks, with a branch up to The Arafura Sea to Kalumbaru, and a couple of flights in helicopters to provide some variety. Dave caters sensationally as we have said and as a driver and raconteur he has no peer.
It's a dry place with intervals of water. Leaving a disabled vehicle is like in all the Deserts of this World a no no , as is running with out proper equipment. People die every year in spite of increasing traffic density. We came across a Toyota disabled with a flat, two families, kids everywhere , no blokes, three hundred km from Broome, never changed a flat before. Nasty. There was water down the hill so no one gave a rats, except us.
There are a few of Robaires VBL Project style scrolling Panos embedded in the body of work, these are best viewed with the other sizes menu set to "original"
So we will load the truck in Darwin and get on with it shall we.
