The Great White Fleet
Sydney August 20 27th 1908
We have all come to expect the odd at Rusticana and this is no exception. Barrisimus found the print of this photograph used as packing in an old picture frame he was reconditioning. There are no attributions on the old print so it cannot be traced for provenance..
Thinking it was a tad familiar he showed it around the maritime contingent at Rusticana and they came to the conclusion that it was most probably taken from Watsons Bay hill just inside South head overlooking the harbour. There are a few clues , a pilot steamer a lighthouse the geographicals. However we would as ever appreciate any and all comments.
Google presented us with the most wonderful web page on the Fleet. The Sydney component of the World Voyage is at : http://www.greatwhitefleet.info/GWF_Visits_Sydney.html
The full Voyage is a very rewarding browse as well. Enjoy
