The starting gun.
To get Portus on the blocks and ready to run here is a restored cannon at The Georges Heights Battery. Part of the building plan in the mid to late eighteen hundreds, batteries were constructed on the many promontories jutting into Portus Jacksonia.
These are now linked by many kilometres of walking paths, with small cafes for rest and recreation built into restored gunners huts and more substantial admin buildings as restaurants. A master plan as part of the Foreshores Development is introducing guided tours and constructing local displays to introduce the works to locals and to the tourist.
