Rice with everything

After our holiday Jeremy decided we should buy a rice cooker. I found some nice ones but J discounted those - it had to be Japanese. I found two Japanese ones.... but it had to have fuzzy logic. To cut a long story short.... he imported a Japanese rice cooker from the US, then we had to pay import duty.... then we had to buy a transformer to sort out the voltage difference... now we have to have rice with everything! Hahahah.

lol. the Japanese do have some crazy rice cookers i have to admit. i believe all the rice cookers my family use are Japanese-made as well, but ours tend to be the very modest kind; i.e. just 1 button. the Japanese have some high-end models that do all sorts of fancy stuff... better to avoid those IMO. Jeremy sounds like the typical guy, insists on quality and authenticity when it comes to his tools--including the cooking kind. :D

being asian, i can't imagine how anyone goes without rice. :) congrats on the rice cooker! it sure makes life easier!!!

regarding the comment about mash potatoes and gravy being preferable to rice... to southeast asians, western food is very heavy. all the tastes are very thick and hearty. we'd go crazy if we ate like that everyday. this is in contrast to asian foods (at least among southeast asians), where the food tends to be very light--with a greater emphasis on thin soups or broths and vegetables. (japanese and chinese foods tend to be much heavier than southeast asian food. things like black soy sauce and teriyaki sauce are much heavier than fish sauce, which is commonly used in southeast asian cooking.)

i could almost feel the stickiness of the rice.

Rice would be my last choice for most dinners, but nice on occassions. Mashed potatoes and gravey. Interesting shot, Gail.

I agree on the rice with everything...laughing at the fuzzy logic...LOL, it's not what rice is cooked in, it's HOW it's cooked is the answe...ah well, it will help you to recall your lovely holiday.
