Japan: thousand Torii

From Kyoto we visited the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. There are 10,000 of these red Torii gates leading up into the mountain and down again. It really is an amazing sight. The vermillion lacquer on the gates is regarded as symbolizing peace and good harvest. For someone like me who adores red, this place was paradise! It was probably my favourite of the many shrines we visited.
